Tongyeong International Music Festival

Since its foundation in 2002, the Tongyeong International Music Festival (TIMF) has established itself as one of the most important musical events in Asia. The festival is dedicated to the German-Korean composer Isang Yun, who was born in Tongyeong but spent the latter part of his life in Berlin, Germany.

Every spring, established names of the classical music world and aspiring musicians from Korea meet and perform in a diverse programme that brings together many different perspectives on music, from centuries-old traditional Korean music to cutting-edge avantgarde music of today.

Today, Tongyeong International Music Festival is being considered one of the most respected and influential contemporary music festivals in Asia. Called „the Salzburg Festival of Asia“ by the German Frankfurter Allgemeine Newspaper, it not only pays tribute to the music of Isang Yun, but also aims to foster young composers and performers, and has a strong focus on contemporary music in its programming.
