PRELIMINARY STAGE
  • - Recording of applicants’ performance should be submitted to be judged by the Preliminary Jury.
  • - The repertoire for the recording may be freely chosen by applicants, complying with the following constraints.
    • * 1st movement of any Violin Concertos selected from No.3 in G major K.216, No.4 in D major K.218 or No.5 in A major K. 219, composed by W. A. Mozart, must be included.
    • * The work presented in the recording cannot be performed in further Stages from 1st, 2nd to Final.
    • * The composer presented in the recording may be chosen in further Stages, but this selected work should be different from that of the recording.
  • - Total duration of the recording should not exceed 25 minutes.

1ST STAGE

Each 1st Stage Competitor shall perform three compositions complying with the following constraints of selection.

  1. 1) J. S. Bach

    Competitors must choose to perform both 1st and 2nd movements, selected from Sonata for Violin Solo BWV 1001, BWV 1003, BWV 1005 or from Partita for Violin Solo BWV 1002, BWV 1004, BWV 1006.

  2. 2) N. Paganini

    Competitors must choose to perform two pieces, selected from 24 Caprices for Violin Solo Op.1; No.1, No.3, No.5, No.7, No.11, No.15 or No.17.

  3. 3) Isang Yun

    Competitors must perform "Das Kaninchen" from Five Pieces for Violin Solo "Li-Na im Garten" (1984/85).

    * Isang Yun’s score must be legitimately purchased from Boosey & Hawkes, www.boosey.com, for which the Competition is not responsible.

2ND STAGE

Each 2nd Stage Competitor shall perform three compositions complying with the following constraints of selection.

  1. 1) L. v. Beethoven or J. Brahms

    Competitors must choose to perform the entirety, selected from the following Sonatas for Violin and Piano.

    • L. v. Beethoven : Sonata for Violin and Piano No.2 in A major Op.12
    • L. v. Beethoven : Sonata for Violin and Piano No.3 in E flat major Op.12
    • L. v. Beethoven : Sonata for Violin and Piano No.5 in F major Op.24
    • L. v. Beethoven : Sonata for Violin and Piano No.6 in A major Op.30
    • J. Brahms : Sonata for Violin and Piano No.1 in G major Op.78
    • J. Brahms : Sonata for Violin and Piano No.2 in A major Op.100
    • J. Brahms : Sonata for Violin and Piano No.3 in D minor Op.108
  2. 2) Isang Yun

    Competitors must choose to perform 2nd movement from Two Pieces for Violin Solo "Kontraste" (1987).

  3. 3) One additional work at Competitor’s choice from the following selections
    • N. Paganini : Variations on "I Palpiti" in A major Op.13
    • F. Schubert : "Rondeau brillant" in B minor Op.70 D.895
    • C. Saint-Saens : "Introduction et Rondo Capriccioso" in A minor Op.28
    • H. Wieniawski : "Polonaise brillante" No.2 in A major Op.21
    • M. Ravel : Rhapsodie de Concert "Tzigane" M.76
    • G. Bizet / F. Waxman :&nb
